A view from a window
Year 4 children have taken their inspiration for their writing from the image below (from Window, by Jeannie Baker).

Now, the lizard had scuttled from the window sill and into the vast, exotic garden where the tropical breeze mixed with the scent of mango and apricot. While the bright pink flamingos were drinking from the lake, a long, thin, sinister interloper, as green as an emerald, slithered through the spikey weeds, creeping up on its prey. There was a rustle of leaves in the wind. A gentle purr from the cat could be heard. While the wind blew, scaly and bumpy rocks rolled.

Beneath the shade of the lilac tree was a multicoloured lizard taking shelter from the sun. Butterflies were busily collecting nectar from the neighbouring violets and birds of paradise. Koalas were noisily munching on eucalyptus leaves while, sat in the grass, at the end of the garden, was a ginger, purring cat. All around there was a cacophony of clicking kangaroos and chirping grasshoppers. The scent of zesty lemons and juicy mangos wafted through the air with a sweet smelling perfume. Dragonflies whirred around the glistening lake as colourful macaws, with an ear-splitting shriek, perched at the tip of the old, tumbledown shed. In and out of the itchy, damp grass slither scaly interlopers.
